Today, I dreaming of warm weather and have a shorts try-on with Loft! Our weather has been so cold lately, but I’ve come to expect that here in Indiana in the spring. Thankfully, we will be warming up to more seasonable temperatures this week. And I so hope the warmer weather is here to stay!
Once it does warm up, I can’t wait to wear some of these cute shorts I’m sharing in this post. Most are really good choices if you’re shopping for shorts. A few didn’t work for me as well as I would have liked though.
Before we get to the try-on, here are a few things on sizing for me personally….
I don’t always shop for petite sizes. It really depends on the type of clothing.
As you have heard me say here before, I’m really short waisted at only 5’2″ tall. Finding shorts and pants that fit correctly is really a challenge for me! Whether I weigh more or less, I have a thick waist and thinner legs. So, I usually have to purchase a bigger size in bottoms to accommodate my waistline. However, that means the fit is often loose everywhere else.
In a perfect world, if money and time were no object, I would get all my bottoms tailored to fit my proportions appropriately. Since that’s just not possible, I just do the best with what I can find.
When I shop for shorts, I usually don’t get them in petite sizes. This gives me more wiggle room in the waist, and I don’t like my shorts too short either. I also don’t like my shorts and pants to fit too tight. If you need a petite, most of these do come in petite sizing as well as regular. Surprisingly, I should have tried some of these below in a petite size, and I’ll explain that as we go along.
Linen Pleated Pull On Shorts
These shorts are so light and comfortable. They didn’t work for me in a regular size though. Maybe, I should have tried these in a petite. However, it’s the pleats that are just a little big and awkward on me – I tried to capture it in the picture below. Pleats are starting to come back in fashion in pants. At first, I thought maybe I’m just not used to them, but the pleating here is just not quite right to me.
The pink is pretty but very bright. I would exchange them for a petite size to compare, but I presently don’t have a lot of tops in my closet to wear with these anyway.
Perhaps, my eye is just not adjusted to this look. Otherwise, I love everything else about these shorts.
Next, I wanted a pair of black shorts and ordered a couple to try.
Black Emory Shorts
I purchased a pair of these shorts in another color last year in a smaller size. And I hardly wore them because I thought they were a little too small. I went up a size in these and like them much better. These shorts are also loose fitting, but not as awkward looking to me as the ones above.
I wanted a more casual black pair but can dress these up if needed too. I also can wear a black top with them to get the look of a romper without the inconvenience of one. I really like these shorts and will keep these. I think they’ll be cool in warm weather and are super comfortable. The Emory shorts also come in several other colors.
Lou & Grey Wanderweave Zip Pocket Shorts
If you are looking for a sportier, athleisure type short, these are for you. They are lot more fitted than the Emory shorts above. The material is very light-weight for hot summer days. These shorts would work well over a bathing suit or to wear around water. I feel like they will dry out quickly if they get wet.
They would also be great for working in the yard, hiking, and any outdoor activity where you want to be super casual, cool, and comfortable. I really like these shorts too, but wanted something not quite this casual. So, I will keep the Emory shorts above and probably send these back.
Frayed High Waist Denim Shorts in Lavender Cloud
I was also looking for another pair of denim shorts and stumbled upon these frayed denim shorts in lavender. I am in love with this color! I think these are so cute! I try to buy most of my shorts in neutral colors that I can wear with anything. But sometimes, it’s fun to change things up a little bit!
If you are petite, these shorts are very high waisted. I would definitely suggest trying them in a petite size. These shorts also come in pink and blue.
Frayed High Waist Denim Shorts in Mid Indigo Wash
Here are the same frayed shorts in a true denim. These are a very good denim option for summer. They are comfortable and have just enough stretch to them. Again, these are very high waisted. So if you are shorter, I would recommend trying both the petite and regular size to compare.
