Even though I write a blog, words don’t always come easy to me. They especially don’t come easy in difficult conversations. There are times when I have no words for prayer too even when I’m by myself. I want to always pray expressing the right thoughts and speaking honorably to God. I want to be wise in what I ask for and say, but there are some situations where I just come up blank.
One such instance is where I am very overwhelmed by heartache or the emotional stress of a situation. And I tend to be a very emotional person. Sometimes, I just can’t express the proper words for crying, shock, or the inability to speak under emotional pain.
Another type of situation is where I’m in great need of wisdom. I am so dumbfounded by the situation or problem at hand that I don’t know what the best thing to request of God is?!
The last one I struggle with is when I don’t know anything about the person that needs prayer or even what their need may be.
In all situations, I know I should not neglect to pray though. God should always be Who I turn to first. So when times like these arise, I think of the verse below found in Romans.
It is so comforting to know the Holy Spirit is praying the most perfect prayer for us and with us. After all, God knows our needs before we even speak them. I just lift up the situation to God. I know He has this. I ask Him to work out what He knows is best for all involved and that His will be done. I ask for comfort and peace for all involved. I ask that all may fully know Christ through whatever they are facing or experiencing.
When I was dealing with breast cancer, I was in awe of how many people said they were praying for me. People who hardly knew me or didn’t know me at all were lifting up prayers. Unfortunately, there were times before that when I neglected to pray first or at all in some situations for someone I should have – especially if I didn’t know the person well or the need. God taught me to take more time each day to pray for others when needs arise whether I know them or not, and whether I know their needs or not.
I encourage you each today to pray for those around you whether you know them well or not. You don’t have to have the most elegant or perfect words. Just lift the person or situation up to One Who knows what we each need.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

Beautifully said and just what I needed to hear. I seem to begin all my prayers with “please help (insert their name)”…and then feel so inadequate in my praying. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on prayer. You were very helpful with my feelings of inadequacy in prayer.
Thank you! Yes, we all feel inadequate at times, but God knows our hearts and needs. We can just be “ourselves” and talk to Him!

Sorry to hear that you have been under the weather. I pray that you are feeling better with the help of our Lord Jesus. Just like Pamela stated I feel do inadequate at times. But I know God under stand me.
I have a prayer request we are traveling to Texas to our daughter and her family. My Mom is traveling with us and she is 86 a few health issue most of it is dealing with pain. I ask you would remember her in your prayers.
I am praying God will continue to heal your health issue.
